| Archer Braid Trail Update: |
Posted on Apr 29th, 2012
Most in our community should be aware by now of the proposed Archer Braid Trail through Alachua County. The Haile Village Center Owners Association board of directors believe it’s important for our owners and our community to have a clear understanding of our board’s position on the trail.
First, our board is in favor of the proposed trail system in general terms. We believe having the trail in close proximity to our area could benefit the Haile community and the Haile Village Center. Ultimately, we believe that the Haile residents should have the final say in whether the trail system comes directly through our community or on an alternate route that would be close by. We also wish to thank the county commission for listening to the three Haile associations by voting to allow local community workshops to study the current plan and additional routes. This will allow our residents to provide their input and have their concerns addressed.
Our main concerns are listed below:
- Additional million dollar plus cost to route the trail system through the Haile community vs. other routes
- Aesthetic and functional effect on our main four-way stop intersection with the addition of a 10 foot wide asphalt pavement for the major trail system.
- Aesthetic effect on our scenic Haile Boulevard and 91st street. With the trail being 10 feet wide, it’s equivalent to a single lane highway being added. Each 100 feet of trail is 1,000 square feet of asphalt. This would most definitely affect the appearance of Haile Boulevard, as there would be three lanes of asphalt in place of our current two lanes.
- The loss of many trees to install the trail. This is especially true at the 4-way stop and along Haile Boulevard.
- Overflow onto our private bike path system and any costs involved. Additional maintenance and liability to our homeowners associations would come into question.

The pond area at the south end of the village is in the process of being revitalized into a fresh water pond, alive with plants and fish, under the supervision of Mike Thibault. We are hoping to have fish in the pond before the end of the year! We may need some volunteers to feed the fish. Any takers?
